I'll do a search on the forum but you know I'll get thousands and thousands of hits. Like I said, a head scratcher for this duallie newbie.Īny other info on the duals you think I (and other new and potential duallie owners) would find helpful would be most appreciated. Maybe there's a way to secure the extensions BETWEEN the tires when not being used to fill the tires?

and dammit having the extensions sticking out sure would ruin the good looking set of duallies. are my tires mounted correctly? assuming "yes", what's a simple way to fill up my tires when necessary? I looked at valve stem extensions and I guess some styles could work but I'm not sure how secure the mountings would be and I wouldn't want the extensions whipping around my wheels as I'm driving down the road. anything special about those stem caps or just regular caps that GM got a good deal on from a supplier?Ģ. I searched the internet for color coded stem caps and came up with the new fangled caps that change color as your pressure changes.not the same thing as what's on my truck.ġ.

#Valve stem extension manual
I looked in the owner's manual but frankly there's not a whole lot of info specifically on the dual tires and nothing on "plunger tip stem caps". At first I thought I might have the TPMS but it's not listed in my standard or optional equipment so I guess not. I think each tip was white but it's too damn cold out there (mid-30s already) for me to crawl around with a flashlight to verify the color. From one thread I found using the search I read about the dual foot style pressure gauge that should allow me to get the PSI.Īnother thing, the stem caps were a type I've never seen before - black plastic with a colored "plunger" tip. I could reach in between the tires and touch both stems with a hand but there's not much room to maneuver a flexible hose and air pump nozzle in there. I found the stem for each outer tire pointed inward and the stem for each inner tire pointing outward with both stems pretty close together, indicating the wheels were purposely aligned to have it this way. The orientation of the valve stems on both sets of duals surprised me. I did a search of the forum but didn't see anything that applied. All Rights Reserved. While I was familiarizing myself this morning with my new LMM duallie (first diesel and first duallie for me), by checking under the hood, crawling around underneath, and checking out the duals I came across a head scratcher concerning the tire valve stems.

#Valve stem extension crack
Why? The rubber can’t take the movement and weight of these and will crack and blow off.
#Valve stem extension install
However, never install extenders if you have rubber valve stems. Also pay very close attention if they’re sticking out past the outside rim you could tear them off if you rub a curb. Truly the best way to solve this issue is take the RV to a tire center and have extra long brass valve stems installed and bend them to the desired angle needed to get air into the tire. Also if they’re not installed correctly they will leak all the time requiring you to add air. If your wheel cover comes off while driving it will break both extenders off and there you go sitting on the highway with two flat tires. But beware if you have wheel covers you can not use them. There are many designs for these applications and the best are the steel braided models. For most people, it’s a must have in order to check air pressure in the rear duals of your motor home. This week’s tech-tip is about wheel valve extenders.
